The Playback Project

Questions

Are you a 'for profit' or a 'not for profit'?

We’re a community-focused initiative, currently in the early stages of development. We’re not seeking or generating income at the moment, our goal is to build something that serves the public interest, ensuring accessibility and transparency for all. We're not-for-profit, with a strong commitment to reinvesting any future contributions back into the project to further our mission.

Can I make a donation?

Thank you so much for your generosity! At this stage, we’re not accepting donations as we’re self-funding and focused on building the foundation of the project. However, we truly appreciate your interest. If you'd like to support us financially in the future, please feel free to reach out to us at hello@playbackproject.com, and we may get in touch as we grow.

There is a fundraiser to acquire a piece of land from one of the councils - if you want to donate, this could be an alternative.

Who do I contact for media enquiries?

Contact us at hello@playbackproject.com

I want to help you turn The Playback Project into something bigger. How do I get involved?

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm! We're just getting started, but we truly welcome any support or expertise that can help us grow. Whether it’s taking the platform to the next level, offering legal advice, or sharing your skills, we’d love to hear from you. Please drop us an email at hello@playbackproject.com, and we’ll be in touch to explore how we can collaborate.

I would like to add my Council - how do I do that?

Please drop us an email at hello@playbackproject.com, and we’ll be in touch.  Remember that we're just starting out so we can't reply super fast or commit to get your space up within a specified timeframe. We're working on that.

Will you be able to tell who submitted the video?

You make the recording and send it to us.  We then upload it so it is accessible on the platform.  We do not add details of who submitted the video.

I want to get a council / government body on here which is not from England. How do I do that?

Due to major differences in the law across the UK and beyond, we are just focusing on England for now.  Our dream is for The Playback Project to expand.

I watched a video which breaches your code of conduct / is not in line with The Openness of Local Government Bodies Regulations 2014 / [other concern] - how do I get it removed?

Thank you for your diligence!  Please email us at hello@playbackproject.com - we'll review the video and remove it if necessary.  It would be great if you can let us know the nature of the breach and the time stamp.

I have witnessed bad behaviour from a Councillor in a video.  How do I hold them accountable?

We have no role in this as we're just a platform to share and create transparency.

Formal government procedures - if you believe a councillor has breached their Code of Conduct, you can report it directly to the relevant council's Monitoring Officer.

There are social media posts expressing some level of dissatisfaction with the outcomes of reporting to the Monitoring Officer.

We'd encourage you to discuss with the council or your community.  We're trying to slowly change the culture and calling people out on their behaviour might start to bring change.

We're aware that people also share videos from The Playback Project on social media platforms so the Internet can do what the Internet does.
